“Schools will reopen in yellow and blue cities starting on January 20, and parents can choose if they want to send their children to school,” according to a decision made announced on Thursday by the National Covid-19 Task Force chaired by regime President Hassan Rouhani. “The personnel in all schools across the country, other than those in red areas, will be present in schools starting on January 20,” the announcement adds. Rouhani resorted to yet a new ridiculous lie in this session. “Considering the infrastructure provided by the government, online systems did not allow education to come to a halt… Nothing will replace in-person education,” he said.

“We are concerned about a new rise in Covid-19 cases because the number of people seeking medical care in hospitals is on the rise and this can be a warning about a new wave in late January and February,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Thursday. “Currently we are against the reopening of schools. We are concerned that we will fall into the trap we witnessed back in the February-April 2020 period. If we are engulfed this time around the intensity of the new wave in our country may be far more significant, and our medical personnel may not have the ability and energy needed to confront such a turn of events,” he added, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“We remain concerned about a rise in Covid-19 cases across the country. The bitter experience of March and April 2020 showed us that with the slightest mistake we will return to the coronavirus peak,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Thursday. “Our hospitals are not ready for a return of the Covid-19 crisis. We have surpassed three difficult crises. If a fourth peak does take place later this month or in February, we will be facing difficult conditions considering the current psychological and economic status in our society. In the current circumstances we should not lift the Covid-19 restrictions under the pretext of establishing economic growth,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“We hope the first phase of the vaccine research will before March 20 and based on our forecasts the Iranian vaccine will not be available for the people prior to early July,” said a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Thursday, according to the Javan daily, a newspaper linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“For the first time in the past few days the number of new Covid-19 patients being hospitalized in Tehran surpassed the 300 mark in one day and reached 309, of which 131 were placed in ICUs,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Thursday. He also reported 1970 people sought medical care in hospitals, indicating a 6.7 percent rise in comparison to the day before. If this trend continues in the coming 48 hours it can sound a serious alarm bell for Tehran, he added. “Currently there are over 1800 coronavirus patients hospitalized across Tehran, of which 730 are in ICUs,” Zali continued, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The threat of a return to the harsh Covid-19 days still exists. Coronavirus remains ready. Currently we have 153 Covid-19 patients hospitalized, of which 55 are in ICUs and a number of them are in critical conditions,” said the deputy dean of Yazd Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and1 Security (MOIS).

“The number of Covid-19 patients in Ahvaz has increased by ten to 15 percent in the past few days,” said the dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the Mehr news agency.
