Iran, December 28, 2020—Over 193,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 475 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Monday afternoon local time, December 28. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 54,814, around a third of the actual figure.

This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

“With one hasty measure we can most certainly return to where we were. Quarantine restrictions will continue in the coming weeks because conditions in Tehran are orange and we must trek forward with more caution,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Monday, according to the state-controlled Hamshahri newspaper.

“The President has received the necessary authorization to use one billion euros from the National Development Fund. However, to this day not one rial has been given to the Tehran Municipality that oversees a night population of nine million and a daily population of 15 million,” said the deputy chair of the Tehran City Council Budget and Planning Commission on Monday. “On some days we are seeing 60 percent of the country’s Covid-19 fatalities being reported in Tehran,” the official added, according to the Mizan news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s judiciary.

“Circumstances in Qazvin province are fragile considering the poor conditions of our neighboring provinces such as Zanjan, Gilan and Mazandaran,” said the deputy chair of the Qazvin Covid-19 Task Force on Monday, according to the Youth Journalist Club, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“During the past few days, we have seen an increase in the number of people being hospitalized,” said the dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University on Monday. “If these numbers continue to be high we will return to last month’s red status period and witness many fatalities during the winter season,” the official added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

Despite these conditions there are still delays, lies, and contradictory remarks from regime officials on Covid-19 vaccine procurement. “The 2021 budget bill has no specific clause for importing Covid-19 vaccine. The domestic Covid-19 vaccine is conditioned on positive human tests and at the fastest pace the human test sample will be ready around June 20, 2021,” said a member of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) Health Commission on Monday, according to the state-controlled Khabar Online website.

IRGC chief Hossein Salami resorted to ridiculous remarks on this topic, saying the “Soleimani” plan will bring relief to the entire world! “We have found the formula to overcome this issue! Solutions and methods that can lead us to a decline with obtaining the vaccine at the time being,” he said on Monday. “The Soleimani plan can be considered the focal point of our country’s new discovery. This is unprecedented across the globe(!) and it has been successful. If other countries would be able to tune their social apparatus with this initiative, they, too, will be witnessing a decline and global tranquility will be the final result,” Salami claimed, according to the state-controlled Iran Press News website.

“Based on arrangements made by a number of charity entities in the U.S., 150,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be imported to Iran by January 19 and placed at the Red Crescent’s disposal,” said the head of Iran’s Red Crescent on Monday, according to the IRGC-linked Tasnim news agency.

“Each year we hear pledges about domestic vaccines for influenza. However, they reach no results and we are constantly importing vaccines,” according to a piece published on Monday in the state-controlled Sharq newspaper. “Is the coronavirus vaccine supposed to be easier? During the Covid-19 crisis the Health Ministry showed that they are not fully reliant on modern science and the principles of scientific research. Here’s an important question: Why are many countries not seeking to produce their own Covid-19 vaccine and are considering their population’s health more important than practicing economy or seeking national pride during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis?”

Madam Maryam Rajavi, President of the Iranian opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), described the regime’s refusal to purchase Covid-19 vaccines as a “criminal policy.”

“As the regime’s foot-dragging in purchasing the vaccine has angered the public in Iran, the regime’s leaders continue to cover-up the truth and lie,” Madam Rajavi tweeted. “The mullahs’ president, Hassan Rouhani, says domestic and foreign vaccines are on the way, but the head of the Central Bank says only 200 million Euros have been allocated for 8.4 million people, i.e., one-tenth of the population. The regime provides no details on when & where the vaccine is purchased. Rouhani sheds crocodile tears: ‘We are not prepared to let our people go through the testing period of an unreliable vaccine’ & the head of the Red Crescent reveals: ‘The purchased vaccines are Chinese.’”
