Iran, September 29, 2020—Over 112,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 444 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Tuesday afternoon local time, September 29. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 25,986, around a fifth of the actual figure.
The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 8276 in Razavi Khorasan, 7273 in Khuzestan, 5529 in Isfahan, 5312 in Mazandaran, 4516 in Gilan, 3718 in East Azerbaijan, 3333 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 3196 in Golestan, 3036 in Fars, 2989 in Hamedan, 2932 in West Azerbaijan, 1989 in North Khorasan, 1741 in Kerman, 1530 in Hormozgan, 1506 in Yazd, 1460 in Markazi (Central), 1053 in Zanjan, 1042 in Qazvin, 858 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, and 762 in South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

“In Tehran, it would at least take two to three weeks in the previous periods for our stats to double. However, during this period the number of new patients doubled in a very short period,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Tuesday. “We are forecasting that we will be witnessing more deaths than in previous periods,” he added, according to the state-run Entekhab daily.
“Conditions in Tehran are very critical and even described as black. This city must be quarantined as soon as possible,” said a senior ICU expert in Tehran’s Masih Daneshvari Hospital on Tuesday. “There are no empty ICU beds and patients are waiting in long lines even to be accepted into emergency sections. The number of dire patients in Tehran have increased significantly. All ICU beds in government hospitals are filled and if I contract the virus today there is no ICU bed even for me who has worked in this branch for years. Most of the private hospitals don’t have the capacity to accept Covid-19 patients or are not willing to do so, especially since the medicine needed for Covid-19 patients are not provided to private hospitals. The number of patients in need of ICU care is rising. There is no management or a method available for us to know in which hospital we can find an empty ICU bed. If a patient’s conditions deteriorate, we are forced to call one hospital at a time to ask if they have an ICU bed empty, and the answer is usually no. The medicine distribution management system is highly flawed. Right now, in government hospitals only one or two physicians are permitted to prescribe Remdesivir. For this reason, most of the patients are seen looking to purchase medicine in the open market. They are purchasing Iranian-made Remedesivir at 80 million rials (around $270) in the open market, while it is sold in government hospitals at seven to 12 million rials (around $24 to $40),” he continued, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The total number of patients hospitalized in [Isfahan] province, aside form the cities of Kashan and Aran & Bidgol, stands at 1417, of which 234 are in ICUs. During the past 24 hours 27 patients have died of suspicious Covid-19 symptoms and nine have died who tested positive for Covid-19,” said the spokesperson for the Isfahan medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the Javan daily, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
“Currently we have 1000 Covid-19 patients hospitalized in East Azerbaijan province. This is a new record and the number continues to rise,” said the deputy dean of East Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
“The number of people hospitalized in [Kermanshah] province have increased by more than 100 since last week and now stands at more than 460 individuals. Currently, we are seeing 90 new Covid-19 patients hospitalized and around 65 to 70 are released each day. Around 20 to 25 individuals are added to the number of people hospitalized each day,” said the dean of Kermanshah Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to ISNA.
In Yazd, the spokesperson of the local Medical Sciences University said the past 24 hours were a harsh day for Yazdi locals. “Nine Covid-19 patients died and 57 were transferred to ICUs. Some are in dire conditions,” the spokesperson added on Monday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
In Markazi (Central) province, dean of the Arak Medical Sciences University said Tuesday brought a new Covid-19 death rate record for this province. “We have registered 13 Covid-19 deaths and 259 new cases in the past 24 hours,” the dean said, according to ISNA.
