“The recent genetic mutation of the novel coronavirus and its transmission power is a source of serious concern,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Tuesday, September 22. “With this transmission ability of the virus increasing, we are especially witnessing its transfer among family members in large numbers. If one individual contracts the virus most of his/her family members will be contracting Covid-19,” he added, according to the state-run Entekhab daily.

“Our medical teams can only do so much and extreme fatigue due to their extreme working conditions has been ongoing. Most of our residents have contracted the virus and 164 physicians and nurses have lost their lives,” said Masoud Mardani, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“We expect the number of new Covid-19 cases and deaths in the third wave to be higher than the second wave,” said a member of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday. “In the next two weeks we will witness an increase in the number of new cases and deaths. We may be facing a catastrophe soon if effective measures are not taken,” he added, according to the state-run Shafaqna outlet.

According to the official IRNA news agency, the spokesperson of the health ministry in Isfahan said on Tuesday, “Since June, the number of cases and hospitalized patients in Isfahan has been on the rise, and this trend continues. There are currently 1,278 Covid-19 patients in the province’s hospitals, and 216 of them are in ICU. The beds in hospitals and treatment centers in the province are fast filling and we need to use the capacity of private, charity and non-governmental hospitals.”

The semi-official ISNA news agency quoted the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University as saying, “In the province, aside from the counties of Bidgol and Kashan, daily critical cases have surpassed the 200 threshold and unfortunately, deaths have increased by a factor of 1.5-2. In August and September, the number of daily deaths reached 10, but in the past week, we’ve seen up to 20 and sometimes 30 deaths per day. In Khomeini Shahr, the spread of the virus and number of cases are very high. Hospitals have no free beds and new cases are sent to Isfahan for hospitalization.”

Fearing the eruption of protests, the regime has set up “coronavirus patrols” in Isfahan, Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), reported on Tuesday. “In coordination with the Medical Sciences University, the state security forces and the basij have dispatched units in markets, malls, restaurants, and other crowded areas to instruct the people who are not abiding by health protocols,” the spokesperson of the Coronavirus Task Force in Isfahan said.

Our main worry is that in fall, the spread of flu will be added to coronavirus and amplify the new wave of the disease and weaken our response.” (Source: Javan Daily, September 22)

“We have had 184 individuals hospitalized in the past 24 hours,” said the dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Wednesday. “Currently there are 750 Covid-19 patients in our hospitals, of which 117 are in dire conditions,” he added, according to the IRGC-associated Fars news agency.

“In the past ten days the number of patients hospitalized in this province have increased by 40 percent,” said the Yazd Medical Sciences University on Wednesday. “Fifty-six individuals are in ICUs and 76 have lost their lives in the past four weeks,” he added, according to the official IRIB news agency.
