Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, September 18, 2020—Over 105,200 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 440 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, September 18. “The number of people hospitalized during the past week have increased. In Tehran, these numbers have doubled. We have around 700 to 800 hospitalized Covid-19 patients each day while around 450 to 500 people are released every day, and one the third of the patients suffer from new illnesses,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Thursday, September 17. “In Tabriz we have escalated from less than 40 hospitalized patients per day to around 160 cases these days. Unfortunately, in some provinces, such as Qom, the status quo can be described as explosive. We have increased from ten hospitalized patients per day to around 160 cases these days. As the minister said, we no longer have red, orange, yellow or green zones. The entire country is a red zone and in alarming circumstances. We are facing numerous waves in a stormy sea that has engulfed the entire country. It has been a few months since we have had more than 100 deaths per day. Today we have 35,500 hospitalized patients. This is a near ten percent increase in comparison to April 5. God forbid our daily death rate may reach 200. If we continue this trend the number of deaths may reach around 45,000, which is extremely dangerous,” he said to state TV.

“One reason for the high daily death rate in Iran is due to the high fatigue among our nurses,” said the secretary general of Iran’s Nursing House on Thursday. “In the U.S., each nurse works seven hours a day and earns a monthly salary of $4,000. When the novel coronavirus pandemic began their working hours were increased to 9 hours a day and their mistake rate jumped 14 percent. Now, compare that to Iran’s nurses working a minimum of 12 to 14 hours per day on a monthly salary of $120. During the week they don’t go home and cannot see their children, spouses or parents. Aside from the fatigue this results in a psychological crisis and despair for them,” he added, according to the state-run Arman daily.

“The total number of Covid-19 patients in Isfahan province, aside from the cities of Kashan and Aran & Bidgol, has reached 1,199 cases, of which 196 are in ICUs. During the past 24 hours we have had 25 deaths with symptoms suspicious of Covid-19, and 18 cases of confirmed Covid-19 deaths in our hospitals and medical centers,” said the spokesperson of the Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Thursday.

“During the past few days, we have more than 350 new Covid-19 cases per day. Our death rate is increasing and today we had 13 deaths, 16 deaths yesterday and 18 deaths the day before. The daily rate of hospitalized cases, deaths and positive cases have all increased,” said the deputy dean of Tabriz Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to local state TV.

“Currently there are 482 people hospitalized [in Alborz province]. Unfortunately, during the past 24 hours ten patients have lost their lives and the total number of deaths in this province has reached 1,057 cases,” said the caretaker of Alborz Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Currently we have 590 Covid-19 patients in medical centers across Qom, of which 113 are reported to be in dire conditions,” said the dean of Qom Medical Science University on Thursday, according to the Javan daily, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“564 Covid-19 patients are in hospitals under the supervision of the Mazandaran Medical Sciences University, of which 161 are in ICU sections with chronic breathing disorder symptoms,” said the dean of Mazandaran Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to ISNA.
