Collapse of Reza Shah dictatorship, entrance of Allied Forces to Iran

On August 25, 1941, following the ultimatum of Britain and Soviet Union to Reza Shah regarding avoiding support of German Nazis in the World War 2 and in order to reach military assistance to the Soviet Union which was under Hitler’s forces attack, the military forces of these two countries entered Iran from South and north.

The suppressive army of Reza Shah didn’t resist against the Allied forces and most of its units collapsed and its forces were scattered.

On August 28, Reza Shah retreated and announced his decision of restraint of resistance against the allied forces.

In fear of people’s anger eruption against the puppet dictatorship of Reza Shah, he established martial law in Tehran since August 13, 1941.

On September 16, the allied forces occupied Tehran. Before entrance of allied forces in Tehran, the British government which regarded its interests in keeping the central government recommended Reza Shah to resign and replaced him with his son Mohammad Reza to reign.
