On January 7, 1968, Gholamreza Takhti, the most famous Iranian sport champion was martyred by Shah’s SAVAK on charges of not yielding to Shah’s wills.
The world champion Takhti, was a champion who acquired a lot of glories for the Iranian people in international sport scenes. Takhti was born in 1930 in Tehran. During world’s wrestling tournament in 1961 in Yokuhama, Japan, Takhti defeated all contestants and won the gold medal as the World Champion. His glorious sport record includes 4 gold medal and 7 silver medals in Olympics and world’s tournaments.
Takhti participated in 1963 uprising alongside with the people against Shah’s dictatorship. His efforts in aiding the earthquake suffering people of Buin Zahra placed him in the heart of people as a popular champion.
The Shah’s regime martyred the freedom-lover and fervent Takhti who was the symbol of Iranian freedom-loving sportsmen.
