Saint Stephan Treaty

On March 3, 1878, at the end of war between Russia and the Othman empire Saint Stephen Treaty was signed.  Russia was pursing two objectives from this war that was extended to Istanbul: first, compelling Othman to recognize the independence of Serbia, Monte Negro, Macedonia and Bulgaria whose majority of their population were Slav as the Russians are, and second, extend its influence to the Mediterranean.
Russia’s old rival, Great Britain, did not like the idea, but Othman authorities signed the treaty and therefore put Russia and Great Britain confronting each other.
