Demise of Nima Youshij, father of ‘modern Persian poetry’

On January 7, 1960, Nima Youshij, vanguard and father of the new Persian Poetry passed away. Ali Esfandiari , with the literary pseudonym Nima Youshij, was born in the village of Yoush in Mazandarn Province of Iran.
When he was young, Nima went to Tehran to continue his education. He went to St. Louise High school where he learned the French Language well by which he managed to get acquainted with western literature.
His teacher Nezam Vafa, who was also an expert poet, encouraged him to compose poems.
He first composed poems in traditional style, but later he started change the classic style and in this way the first modern Persian poems were create for the first time and became a method of composing in Persian poem for contemporary poets.
