On September 28, 1970, Jamal Abdul Nasser, the national and popular Arab figure and the leader of Egyptian people’s anti-colonialism struggles passed away.
Abdul Nasser gained power in 1954 and by adopting anti-colonial orientation; he became popular in Egypt and Arab world.
Following Nationalization of Suez Canal by Jamal Abdul Nasser in 1956, the French, British and Israeli armies attacked Egypt and during a military operation occupied Suez cannel, Port Saeed and Islamiya. The attack of French and British armies was faced with strong opposition of Soviet Union and then United States.
Reciprocally, through a public mobilization by Jamal Abdul Nasser, he announced that Egyptians would fight against any transgression.
The attacker forces retreated from the occupying regions in Suez Canal after releasing resolution by the United Nations and therefore Egypt obtained a great victory under Abdul Nasser’s leadership.
Jamal Abdul Nasser was deeply affected by the struggles of late Dr. Mohammad Mosaddeq, leader of Iran’s national movement.
Abdul Nasser resigned following the defeat in the 6-day Arab-Israeli war in June 1967, but after Egyptian people’s public demonstration he took back his resignation and he passed away due to heart attack three years later.
